Shrove Tuesday [View Printable Page]
Each year the vestry hosts the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, which is held on the evening before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, this type of supper served to use up all the sweet and fattening foods of the house that would not be part of the upcoming lenten discipline.
The turn-out for this year's pancake supper was superb, with "batter-jockeys and flippers" working non-stop throughout the evening. The dinner of pancakes, sausage and baked apples was enjoyed by the overflow crowd until it was reported that "all the fat was out of the church kitchen". Proceeds went to Heifer International, which supports independent lifestyles for those in impoverished nations.
Good fellowship was enjoyed by all.
